What Is the Solar Plexus Chakra? A Gentle Guide to Confidence and Choice

Confidence is often imagined as certainty: speaking without hesitation, knowing exactly what to do and never questioning yourself. In everyday life, it is usually quieter than that. Confidence can be the willingness to make one considered choice even when you still feel nervous.

In modern spiritual practice, the solar plexus chakra offers a symbolic way to explore this part of ourselves. It is commonly associated with personal choice, self-trust, motivation and the way we use our will. These are spiritual meanings rather than scientific measures, but they can provide useful prompts for reflection.

What is the solar plexus chakra?

The solar plexus chakra is usually described as the third of the seven main chakras, following the root and sacral centres. It is often pictured around the upper abdomen and represented by shades of yellow or gold.

Within chakra traditions, it is linked with confidence, direction and personal power. “Personal power” does not have to mean controlling other people or forcing an outcome. A gentler interpretation is the ability to recognise what belongs to you: your values, your boundaries, your effort and your next choice.

If you are new to the wider system, What Are Chakras? A Gentle Beginner’s Guide explains the seven-centre framework and how people use it in spiritual reflection.

What can solar plexus themes bring up?

You might turn to solar plexus symbolism when you are preparing to speak up, begin something unfamiliar or make a decision that cannot be perfectly certain. It can also be helpful when you notice yourself waiting for permission, comparing your progress with somebody else’s or mistaking perfection for readiness.

None of this means that discomfort proves your chakra is “blocked”. Nervousness, hesitation and changing your mind are ordinary human experiences. Chakra language is most useful when it opens a question rather than closing one with a fixed label.

Confidence is not the same as pressure

A solar plexus practice should not become another demand to be fearless, productive or endlessly positive. There are times when pausing is wise. There are choices that deserve more information, and situations in which support from another person matters.

Self-trust includes noticing your limits. It may sound like “I am not ready yet”, “I need to ask a question first” or “This does not feel right for me”. Confidence can be a clear no, a thoughtful maybe or a very small yes.

A five-step solar plexus reflection

You can try this practice with a journal, or simply sit with the questions for a few minutes.

  1. Name one choice. Keep it specific and within your control. For example: sending a message, sharing an idea or taking the first step towards a project.
  2. Separate facts from fears. Write what you know, what you are assuming and what information you could still gather.
  3. Remember one strength. Choose something real and modest: persistence, kindness, preparation, curiosity or the courage to ask for help.
  4. Picture a warm yellow light. If visualisation suits you, imagine it as a symbol of steadiness in the upper abdomen. If it does not, place a hand over your journal or look at a yellow object instead.
  5. Choose the smallest honest action. Make it small enough to do without pretending the nerves have vanished.

You might finish with the words: “I do not need complete certainty to make one thoughtful choice.” Treat this as a reflection phrase, not a promise that everything will go exactly as planned.

How the first three chakras connect

The first three chakra themes can be viewed as a gentle sequence. The root chakra asks what helps you feel steady. The sacral chakra explores feeling, creativity and movement. The solar plexus then asks what you want to choose or act upon.

You do not need to work through them in a perfect order. If confidence feels difficult, grounding may be the kindest place to begin. If you feel stuck, a playful creative step may loosen the pressure before you decide what comes next.

Personal support for a next step

If you would like a personal spiritual reflection around one moment that calls for greater self-trust, the Confidence & Courage Energy Session uses solar plexus and throat chakra themes as a framework for choice and expression. The remote service includes an individual session, personalised written report, separate oracle reading, affirmation, reflection prompts and an adaptable next step. It does not require a call or fixed attendance time.

However you explore the solar plexus chakra, keep your own judgement at the centre. The aim is not to become a person who never doubts. It is to meet one real choice with a little more honesty, steadiness and trust in your ability to respond.
